Sunshine Hearts captures one of the earliest chapters of Johnny X’s artistic journey, reproduced here as a 24 × 32 in. / 60 × 80 cm framed canvas.

Created during the artist’s formative period, the work comes from a time when his visual language was beautifully direct.

Against a brilliant yellow field, dozens of colorful hearts move freely across the canvas in red, orange, green, blue, and violet. They overlap, collide, disappear into one another, and surround a large central heart radiating outward in warm layers of crimson and orange.

Some hearts are carefully formed.

Others are imperfect.

Some stand alone.

Others become inseparable from those around them.

Much like love itself.

The radiant yellow background gives the composition its unmistakable optimism—almost as though the hearts themselves are generating the light.

Viewed today, Sunshine Hearts offers a rare glimpse into Johnny X’s work before his artistic language became increasingly layered, conceptual, and psychologically complex.
