Some artists play music. Others change what music can become. 🎸

Featuring Johnny X’s early portrait of Jimi Hendrix, this ceramic art mug celebrates one of the most electrifying and influential figures in modern music.

Hendrix appears beneath his unmistakable wide-brimmed hat, surrounded by explosive greens, yellows, pinks and deep blacks. His expression remains remarkably still while the color surrounding him seems almost amplified.

The music was wild.
The man appears still.
The color does the screaming.

Created during one of the earliest periods of Johnny X’s artistic development, Jimi Hendrix captures a moment when portraiture became a laboratory for experimentation. Color was becoming emotion. Cultural icons were becoming subjects for interpretation rather than imitation.

Hendrix transformed what people believed an electric guitar could do.

This reproduction brings a little of that creative rebellion to something considerably quieter:

your morning coffee. ☕🎸
